FERRIES INTO ORKNEY
From Mainland Scotland there are two ferry routes to Mainland Orkney
1. Scrabster Harbour near Thurso to Stromness with Northlink Ferries
2. Gills Bay, near Wick, to St Margaret’s Hope with Pentland Ferries
It is possible to use a passenger only service from John o’ Groats to Burwick
Booking your car on these ferries is essential
Once on Mainland Orkney you will need to make your way to Kirkwall
Harbour
from where the Shapinsay ferry takes 25 minutes to sail the short distance
to Balfour.
The Castle is a one-minute drive from Shapinsay Pier.
